Let’s talk New Girl.
Ever since Zooey Deschanel became pregnant with her first child in 2015, the show has taken an awkward turn. I don’t know how her becoming pregnant affected the writers in such a way that they felt keeping Meghan Fox on was going to be good for the show, or how it made the show less funny and out-of-character and random. The only reason I can guess is because Zooey is, in fact, a producer of the show which is completely lost without her, and that the actors in the show make up so much of the characters. And now she’s pregnant again. And nothing against her, of course, she has a life besides the show and has all the right in the world to have a million babies, but my problem is with the writers and how they are dealing, or lack there of, with it.
I don’t know where the story line is going anymore, and I’m hoping that they are trying to wrap it up this season, with Winston getting engaged, Schmidt finally getting promoted, Jessica becoming principle, Cece owning a modeling agency, and Nick writing a book.
But a lot of things have gotten lost. For example, does Winston even work anymore? Him becoming and being a cop was such a large part of the storyline. And where is Ferguson? (He actually appeared in this weeks episode.) And who works at the bar now? And what happened to Jessica realizing she was still in love with Nick but then randomly starting to date Robby, who already dated Cece and didn’t need to come back because he’s annoying and Jess didn’t even like him at first, and then all of a sudden they realize that they’re EFFING cousins? And not only during their relationship, but after as well, subtle hints are dropped that Jess still has feelings for Nick – but Nick is with Meghan Fox aka Reagan who IS A TERRIBLE ACTRESS and is always M.I.A (but when she is there, it’s so obvious that her and Nick are wrong for each other, because they don’t even communicate about anything or understand each other and Jess always has to step in). And now that Jess all of a sudden realizes how much Nick is growing up and how his flaws make him who he is, which is exactly what she had issues with before, it seems they still have a chance, AND ISN’T THAT WHAT WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE THEY BROKE UP OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE AND THEY WERE HUNGOVER SO THEIR FIGHT AND BREAKUP MADE NO SENSE BECAUSE THEY HAVE A LOT MORE IN COMMON THAN LOVING EACH OTHER. Also, what would the point have been for Jess to realize she still loves Nick after the breakup? UGH.
My theory is that we’re following a similar plot to Ross and Rachel’s relationship in Friends. Ross and Rachel break up for all the wrong reasons and miscommunications, but they still love each other for 9 freaking seasons and have on again, off again flirtations until the last season when the moment we were all waiting and hoping for happened: they end up together.
- 1 block (8 oz) cream cheese
- 1/2 cup Ranch dressing
- 6 jalapeños, gutted and chopped
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 package bacon, baked and chopped to bits
- 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Preheat oven to 450.
Bring the cream cheese to room temperature. Mix with ranch dressing, sour cream, jalapeños, onion powder, half the bacon bits, and the pepper jack cheese. Add a few dashes of pepper and extra garlic powder if desired. Pour into a square baking dish or skillet, top with cheddar cheese and remaining bacon bits. Bake until cheese is melted and the dip is bubbling.
Spread the baguette slices on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt & pepper, and bake until toasted.
Run your toasty baguette slice through the cheesy, savory sea of dip as if it’s the Titanic crashing into a glacier and submerge into the depth of your mouth.
